Existence
I am someone, in the context of everyone. If I was the only human to exist, then I would also be nobody, because there would be nobody to witness or relate to me.
And so I exist in relation to the people around me. My mother, my father, my brother, my sister, my friends, my mentors, my acquaintances, my peers, those who pass by me on the streets, those who hear of me through the Internet.
To be someone, is to exist alongside others. Because there are others in existence with me, I can be a son, a brother, a friend, a mentor, a mentee, an acquaintance, and a peer. I can be someone that others witness. I can be someone.
I think a lot about wanting to be a better person, such that I can afford to be a better son, brother, friend, mentor, mentee, acquaintance, peer, stranger, friend. Someone who, in the context of everyone, adds some value to the reality that we exist in together. And what of everyone else?
Then, existence isn't just about being witnessed, but about the quality of that witnessing others as well. It's about how we choose to exist in relation to others - how we witness them in return, how we grow through these connections, and how we contribute to the collective reality we share.
